Yes, this is the Mark Rudd from the sixties of the last century. But I'm still very much alive and active in the twenty-first. You can find out more about me here. I’ve recently published Underground: My Life in SDS and Weatherman, covering the years 1965-1977. Here you'll find comments and reviews of the book plus some outtakes. You can contact me here.

The site has four sections organizing essays and links on topics I am particularly interested in: SDS and Weather includes memoir and critique of the Weather Underground and my role in it. Organizing and Activism Now looks at the problem of how to apply the organizing tradition which built all the social and political mass movements of our country's history. Anti-imperialism includes content from a variety of sources on the nature of US imperialism and its opposition, historical and contemporary. In Violence and Nonviolence I use my own experience with "armed struggle" forty years ago to explain why only nonviolent strategy can create social and political change in this country. You'll also find links and other pieces on nonviolence.

How to Build a Movement

Since the summer of 2003 I’ve crisscrossed the country speaking at colleges and theaters and bookstores, first with The Weather Underground documentary and, starting in March of this year, with my book Underground: My Life with SDS and the Weathermen (William Morrow, 2009). In discussions with young people, they often tell me, “Nothing anyone does can ever make a difference.”
